I've been researching ancient Chinese weaponry here.
I'm starting to think the Charipan armies in The Silver Bowl are a little too uniform to be realistic. I might need to add in a wider mix of troops. Also picked up some good ideas for the Lord of Rivertown's army in the Clay Boy story - in particular, mass produced crossbows and plenty of them. Starting to wonder if I should change the clay horse into a clay lion, even if it means getting a little too close to the Red-Maned Lion in The Silver Bowl.
Also might change Masamee's solo fight scene so it's a battle of mounted archers, her hunting bow vs their heavy bows and body- and horse- armour. Mounted archers also seem like a more plausible response to the Tartar-like Yu and knowing how to deal with mounted archers should be the first thing that Charipan cavalry would have to know. With luck, the scene might also provide a brief glimpse of a long war.
