Coziness

Winter is the time for coziness. A warm house. Good food at the table. Staying in.

My mental image of coziness used to involve a fireplace, but, for some reason, my brain now insists there has to be a suitable couch and a largish tv, preferably with overseas soccer on it. I think my memories of winters' past have melded with those of holidaying with family in Malaysia, where the European football games come on live at just the right point for a late evening's entertainment. Roughly as far away from winter as you can imagine, but still the same sense of warm coziness, being among friends and being able to relax as other people far away do all the running for you.

In Melbourne, of course, they know how to do cozy very well, far better than Sydney. Warm coats, proper winter clothes, cafés with fireplaces, trams to take you from little world to little world. In many ways, winter is Melbourne's best season.

Still, it's a good night tonight for being cozy in Sydney. No fireplace, of course, but our house is warm. We've had a good dinner and there's Mozart on the cd player.

What does cozy mean for you?
