World Sharing

Thought for today:

It's not just about world building - it's about world sharing.

In other words, an elaborately constructed and detailed story world won't do you any good at all if you're not able to transport the reader into it. You need to be able to think not only of construction, but also of transmission - how am I going to show the reader what I've got in my head? How can I let them see what it's all about?

No matter how hard you try, there's no guarantee the reader will see the same world you do. What I'm aiming for is that they see something they believe or can believe is real and that it's a place they want to visit, maybe even stick around for the sequels. :)
