Saving my darlings... Update 3

Flipped through the openings of a few fantasy books on my lunch break, and the darlings are back on the chopping board now. I'm a bit anxious about making sure that the opening is as good as possible, especially after re-reading the Readers Report for Circle In The Stars (my first attempted novel) on the weekend. The deleted darlings slow down the pace of the opening a bit too much. I'm starting to think that I might be able to fit at least some of them into an already slower section later on. I'll give it a try.
