The ACO on tour
Apr. 25th, 2007 04:01 pmMy favourite local orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra is currently on a North American Tour.
If you're in the area (the University of Maryland, New York and Puerto Rico are the last remaining venues) and get the chance to see them I can thoroughly recommend it. You can read a review of a concert I attended last year here. They are, in my opinion, the best ensemble in Australia [1] and would be somewhere between the top twenty and top ten small orchestras in the world. Their hallmarks are a high energy, staccato style, vivid control of dynamics and the use of modern instruments informed by period techniques.
[1] Which basically means better than the MSO and the SSO, both of which are creditable Symphony Orchestras, with aspirations to be in the top tier internationally, the ABO, with aspirations to party like it's 1799, and the SSSO, my true local orchestra, with aspirations to fill our local concert hall four times a year.
