Little wheels
Mar. 19th, 2007 08:08 pmI've been thinking about The Last Jet Engine Laugh again lately, and I've just realized that the whole thing is made up of short stories. Each scene is a neat little story in itself, with its own development and ending, and often a jumping off point that will lead into a later story later on.
I've been mentally going over the beginning of The Bear Story and seeing if I could make it work using the same technique. It would have to be, by necessity, a very different story. Large chunks of The Bear Story would need other elements added to them in order to make them stand alone. But it would also be a quite interesting story. The extra rigour required to make each section stand on its own would also help tidy up some of the drag and waffle.
An interesting experiment, I think, the next time I get a big chunk of writing time.
