Flute update
Mar. 13th, 2007 03:16 pmI'm up to another decision point now.
Over the last year, I've got some useful things out of my flute playing. It's given me some brain exercise and something I can do while watching Liem. It's helped me learn more about my own breathing. It's given me a new understanding of certain types of music.
What's not clear though, is whether those benefits are still going to apply any more, or whether I'm still going to consider them satisfactory for the time I put in. For one thing, my "playing while watching Liem" time has almost gone. It's turned into "playing with Liem" time, and any flute practice is going to come out of "my" time from now on.
At the same time, while I'm clearly improving in my playing, I'm getting increasingly dissatisfied with the rate of improvement. To get the next set of benefits - to be able to play more rewarding music for example, I'll need to put in even more time.
It seems I could go two ways here - put in less time and be satisfied with diminishing returns, or put in more time and set higher goals.
