Conversational Narration
Jun. 6th, 2005 09:10 amI've been thinking lately about conversational narration - it which the story reads as though the narrator was talking directly to the reader or to a group of people. It's much harder to make sparkle than my usual style - it draws on something that you can't fake, a sort of natural storyteller voice - Frank McCourt comes to mind. It also runs the risk of becoming monotonous over time. But one of the nice things about it is it's fast to write, boy is fast. Once you've got the voice down, you can just point it at the story and let it go.
I wondering now, looking at my backlog of stories-to-write, if I can use conversational narration for any of them.
