Onwards and ... upwards... sort of
Oct. 7th, 2006 01:23 pmI've redone the outline for the story at hand, informed by what I've learnt from the Chinese novels I've been reading.
The first surprise is that the new outline is much longer. Whereas the original was more about the resolution of a single crisis, this one is more episodic, and things that I thought were all conflicting aspects of the same story are now completely different episodes. This has ironed out a lot of plot holes and niggles, but it has also created new gaps that need to be filled. I need some entirely new episodes in certain places, and a cast of new villains and monsters.
The other surprise is that the new structure brings the characters out in a much stronger way. Instead of being rushed along by the plot into a big bucket of Final Confrontation, they have more time to show what they can do in different combinations and permutations.
And, I have at last an ending, possibly the only ending I could ever have had.
Now to start filling in some of those gaps...
