Flute update
Jul. 14th, 2006 06:35 pmWell, it's pretty clear that I don't have any natural aptitude for music, but at least I'm having fun...
After six months of learning, I'm now at roughly the level a beginner on the piano would be after a week. I can play every note in the range (most of the time), it just takes me a little while to figure out how to get there.
The area of focus now is improving my brain speed. I need to get the note selection down to the point where I can find the fingering and the mouth position without having to think about it. The good news is, this is a problem I know how to solve - it's just a matter of doing the right drills. I might not be gifted or talented, but at least I'm persistant.
From a realistic point of view, I'm probably still a few years away from being able to play the pieces I want to. It's nice to know, though, that it doesn't really matter. I'm making progress, however slowly, and one day I'll get there.
