Flute update
Jun. 1st, 2006 07:55 pmSlow, but steady progress once more.
My focus at the moment is on improving my attack and on getting better volume on the low notes. The latter is best accomplished by getting a longer distance between my lips and the target edge of the blowing hole, quite tricky on such a small flute. Greater distance means a better tone on the low notes, but also much less margin for error. With the flute rolled out at its maximum distance, it seems like there's less than half a millimetre between a passable note and no note at all. I've also been working on the half-holed notes, in particular the bottom Eb, which seems to combine all of my problem areas (half-holed, low and slow, and right-end of the stick).
