Back on the water

After four weeks, we finally managed to finish Shearwater's "two day" annual overhaul, so it was back on the water for us, for the last official Sunday of winter.



For each of the last four weekends, we've been spending time at the sailing, sanding and filling the hull...



Applying primer...



Gloss...



And collecting the odd bottle of rum...



But now it was time to get back into action!



It was a sparkling winter's day, with a clear sky and a building force three southerly. We had one new crew out, so we headed off for a tour around the bay.



After a few weeks off from sailing, it was great to blow the cobwebs away. Shearwater held up well too, coming home nice and dry.



They were dolphins in the bay too, but we missed them. Our friends who went out after we got back had them dance around their boat.

It was! Unfortunately, Shearwater's new coat only looks passable from a distance. Up close, it looks like the world's two worst painters have been using her for practice. Which is not that far from the truth.

It was a great day! We're just starting to get into spring now, so it's warm in the middle of the day, but still cool in the late afternoon. It won't be long before summer begins to get in now.

It was quite fun, although we started to feel the time pressure towards the end. Certainly, it's great for Liem to learn some practical skills and then get to go sailing in his own handiwork.
