It's a glorious winter's day in Sydney, and Liem and are taking Shearwater out for one last sail before her annual overhaul...



The winds are light and flukey, but the air is warm and sunny.



It's a great day to be out on the water, whether you're riding a boat or a plane...

Sailing is a winter sport for you?

It's pretty much a year round sport over here, although it's more popular in the warmer months when the winds are more predictable and you don't need a wetsuit.

We're just about to start Shearwater's annual overhaul, so she'll be out of the water for a few weeks. It's supposed to take around two weeks, but last time it took about six. As always, once you start looking, you keep finding new things to fix.

What a gorgeous day!

It's been so windy here this summer - they had to call off the Americas cup series in Portsmouth a week or so back - I envy you your light and flukey winds.

It was great weather for Liem to practice his helming, although also a bit tricky as the wind kept changing. We had to scull with the rudder a few times as there wasn't enough wind to keep us moving.

Nice to see the full set--I'd only seen the bottom photo on FB! i love how the horizon dips and swoops in these photos. (I know it's actually the boat, but I have the sense of the boat remaining as level and steady as a building foundation while around it the ocean veers this way and that.

It was a great day for a relaxing sail. We found out later that some others who went sailing after us saw dolphins.
