Minnamurra rainforest

This week, we're off to the Minnamurra Rainforest, for a bit of an adventure.



We'll walk across laughing creeks while listening to the amazing songs of the lyrebirds.



And get up close to some ancient trees.



If you've got the energy, you can follow us all the way to the Minnamurra falls...





But if you want a good look at the lyrebirds, the best place is actually the picnic area by the information centre.



These birds are fantastic mimics. You can hear them almost constantly along the trail, mimicking other birds and chirping out R2D2 style notes - but they're next to impossible to see unless they're out in the open. Here we were lucky enough to find one scraping around in plain sight.

You got me curious to hear a lyrebird, so I went to David Attenborough clip on the lyrebird, which includes the lyrebird imitating a camera shutter, a car alarm, and most amazingly, chainsaws and trees being felled. Unbelievable!

I don't suppose people are allowed to swim beneath the waterfall?

You're not actually supposed to leave the board walk at the waterfall, but it looks like most people do. I had to wait a while to get a photo without people taking selfies at the bottom.
