Lunchtime for me on campus, and there are not one but two kestrels in the carpark...

Nankeen kestrels, Wollongong

I've seen these two for a while, and I'm firming on the theory that they are mother and daughter (the mother in the background)...

They were sitting on top of the street lights, looking out across the grassy area beyond the carpark.

Ready for her close-up...

From their high vantage point, they could apparently spot their prey a considerable distance away.

Lunch on the go...

They are indeed! I'm very lucky to have them live nearby...

How wonderful that you get to share lunch with these two beauties...

Though not literally.

I had mee goreng that day... I don't think you'd catch me asking for a swap...

Kestrel: "too much sauce, not enough guts and fur."

Though not literally ^_^ I think an attempt in either direction would be uncomfortable for both parties.

The ready-for-her-closeup shot definitely looks like she's posing for a portrait. Maybe so she can be commemorated on a stamp.

I was struck by how like your kestrel's pose it was--but really what sent me looking at stamps was remembering this stamp, of an American kestrel (pose very different, however):

I know they do have wildlife stamps here too, but it does make me wish there were more stamps to help people identify common birds. It really surprised me how invisible these kestrels were - they could be perching on top of a lamp post and people would just walk past below. If you can't see them, how can you care about them?

Then again, stamps themselves are also on the way out...

I know. I hate that letters, and therefore stamps, are now more of a quaint hobby than an actual real thing. People will, on occasion, still churn butter, but not for daily life, and that's kind of what a handwritten letter is like these days.
