Yes, I guess it's summer-food in Japan, isn't it? (I think there something about eating eel to help you survive the heat.) So maybe that makes it year-round food in Malaysia...

That's exactly right! You're supposed to eat it to combat/prevent heat exhaustion... or maybe not medical heat exhaustion, but the listlessness and lack of appetite that go along with hot, humid days. ... Yeah maybe it is a year-round food in Malaysia ^_^
