Happy New Year everyone! We've just arrived back from a week on the Surf Coast that seemed far too short. Now we have one day to empty and repack our bags and then we're off to Malaysia to our other home away from home.

In the meantime, here are some photos from our trip down south.

There was some of this...

Sunrise at Torquay

And some of this.

And even a bit of this...

We did lots of this.

Red-capped plover

And this.

We also got to watch this.

Now, it's just a matter of doing some last minute shopping while all the shops are closed, and we should be good to go...

Happy New Year

It looks like a wonderful time was had by all. And that first photo, oh my! Glorious!

Thank you! It was a great break, but I'm wondering where all the time went. Usually that week is a time for contemplation for me, but it's been such a busy year that I feel I've barely had time to unwind.

I hope your trip to your other home away from home will give you some more downtime. :)

There was a wonderful children's book when I was young called The Paintbox Sea, with lovely watercolor illustrations showing how the sea could look so many different colors. Your posts show that so well. Not only the colors--sometimes silvery, sometimes dark, sometimes bright blue--but also the sense of texture: sometimes it seems solid and hard like granite, and other times like some kind of lace, and other times like a sheet.

Liem and the others playing on the building site looks simultaneously fun (from a kids' perspective) and nervous making (from a parent's perspective).

Sounds like it was very full indeed--lots of good things. I hope you're enjoying Malaysia now!

Thank you! Yes, it was funny when we saw the boys, because we saw the younger cousin (the most daring) first, and Hsiu Lin was about to tell him to get down, then we saw Liem and his other cousin following him around the corner...
