Pirate Day at Rose Bay
Dec. 21st, 2014 05:07 pmPirate-themed parties aren't uncommon at this time of year, but when it's a party at sailing club, it's a case of "bring your own boat"...

The day begins with a serious briefing about the interpretation of navigational markers and the acquisition of treasure...

And then, it's pretty much a pitched battle on the high seas...

Shearwater puts up a good show, but the Black Pearl has twice our guns, and a range advantage too.

Broadsides at point blank. Time to reload and count the wounded. Some poor tar has already lost an eye in an earlier battle.

While the battle rages, the pirate command ship is off laying caches of treasure.

Belated, the fleet chases after them. It's a beat up to Milk Beach.

Captain Liem on arrival. He won a pack of tim tams for his pirate costume.

At Milk Beach, the pirate fleet comes ashore to replenish their supplies and repair their boats.

And have a couple of swimming races.

It's a glorious day to be out on the harbour.

Even pirates need to cool down sometimes...

The pirate fleet ready to set off again. This time, we're going to round Shark Island, then head for our home port.

It's a downwind run across Rose Bay to Shark Island, where we gybe at the channel marker and head back to the club.

Hostilities are suspended as we race home. A pirate truce must be in force. It's back to the club to de-rig and change, just in time for Santa to arrive atop a standup paddle board...
