Quba vs Feva on Botany Bay

Home again, and I'm back out on Botany Bay for some twilight sailing. This time, I'm in the Quba again and she's keen to show off against her bigger sister...




That's a Feva in front of us. Two sails and a longer hull. If they can keep both sails properly trimmed, they have us cold in a straight line. But if the Quba can stay flat and catch some of those waves moving from left to right, we can sneak past them.



You can see one of the waves here, time it right and you can blast along in front of them, just like a surfer.


Photography isn't easy when you're sailing a single-hander. You can see from the way the boat in front is heeling (tilting) that they've just hit a big gust. Time to put that camera down and hike out...!



Time out after a capsize. These two know what they're doing, but I'm standing by in case they need help.



No harm done. Time to set up for a sunset shot as they pass behind me.



A great way to end the day. Now off to practice my gybes...

Indeed it must be hard to take photos while sailing! :P

There were some amazing scenes as we were crashing over the big waves, but I think I'd need a go pro to really capture that. It's not something I'm going to forget in a hurry though...

It looks a bit turbulent that day? And with clouds rolling in toward the end?

The teeth on your fellow sailor in the second photo are a bit daunting. I think he may be a wereshark.

It didn't rain on us, but it did start raining in the night. (Although we certainly got wet while we were sailing.

Warren did seem pretty comfortable in the water after he capsized...
