Heading home via Los Angeles, I was lucky enough to have some good friends who picked me and my colleague up from the airport and took us out sightseeing. This is Venice Beach...

Nice to get to see the Pacific from the other side, for a change...

The view from the Palisades. I've been to LA twice before, but this is the first time I've been to the sea. My impressions of the city have been completely transformed now.

After some sightseeing and a very fine Lebanese meal for dinner, it was off to the Getty Centre, just in time to catch the sunset.

From high in the hills, you can see how vast the city really is.

Or you can simply sit and watch the hummingbirds.

Chilling out with a hot chocolate as the sun sets over the Pacific. A great way to relax with friends before the long flight home.

I'm glad you liked it! Coming to the coast was a real eye-opener for me. I could have thought of lot of positive adjectives for LA before, but 'relaxing' and 'beautiful' wouldn't have been among them.

I went to Los Angeles for a couple of days while at uni and we spent an afternoon at the beach; it was my first time to ever swim in the ocean, an unforgettable experience, feeling its awesome power.

I think I've lived almost my whole life in coastal towns and cities, and it's different to imagine living away from the sea. On the other hand, it was only as a adult that I first encountered snow that came to you (as opposed to snow you had to go away to visit) and that was an eye-opener for me too.

Whenever you photograph the sea, you capture the sparkles--so beautiful. And the shadow hummingbird is lovely too--like we're seeing it from across a world divide: it hasn't quite materialized here yet. The sunset you know I love ^_^

And the ads on the sides of buildings are great! I took photos of ads for tobacco on the sides of barns when we traveled through Pennsylvania some years ago.

Thanks for sharing your visit!

Thanks for reading! It was a bit amusing that we were in one of the finest art galleries in the country, yet the wonderful paintings and photos couldn't compete with the sunset and the hummingbirds. And good company, of course!
