Ghosts from the past

After lunch at Floriade, we headed over to the Australian War Memorial to look at their aircraft collection.



There are many rare and poignant displays, including this Lancaster. I once met a former Lancaster tail gunner from the UK, who told me he got to sit in this one when he visited and was reduced to tears.



And this Japanese midget sub, a composite made up of two of the three used in an attack on Sydney. All six crew members died, along with twenty-one Australian sailors.



After enduring two flower festivals in three days, Liem is happy to finally get to look at planes instead...

It's quite an experience to go round one of thee museums with someone old enough to have flown in the planes. I've been fortunate enough to have done so with both my father (an RAF photographer) and my godmother - a WRN radio mechanic who worked with Seafires amongst other planes.

Also, like Liem's Green Lantern t-shirt. :)

That must have been a very special experience for you.

Liem has taken a sudden interest in WWI after reading the Horrible Histories books. When we got back from Canberra, we borrowed some Biggles books from the library and he's onto the second volume already.
