khiemtranI've just realized that I can turn one of the problem areas of the Silver Bowl into a neat story, if I show it from an external POV (the viewpoint of an Nau elder as Masamee and Mura pass through the valley and then reappear in the hilltop scene). It's an intriguing idea. Using a new (and potentially disposable) POV here be tricky to reconcile with the rest of the story and might even require the rest of it to be rewritten, but it is one of the best solutions to this particular problem that I've found so far.
Another possibility might be to turn the distant POV thing into a separate short story instead, and to keep looking for a new way to fix the novel.
