Luna Park

Back to Saturday now, and why don't you join us for a trip to Luna Park?



Liem and his cousins are suitably excited.



You can just see the fun park in the distance, by the northern side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.



Nearly there...



Not a bad view from the ferry dock.



But this is all the boys have eyes for.



The reverse side of the gate.



As usual, there are height restrictions on the different rides. You have to be at least 130 cm (which earns you a Yellow band) to ride the Hair Raiser.



Those poor people. I guess we won't be seeing them again.



The ride takes them up.



And up.



And up.



And that was the end of them. Such a sad waste of young lives. The ferris wheel, on the other hand, is much more sedate.



Meanwhile, Liem and his cousins are riding the Wild Mouse.



And enjoying the side shows.



We've just time for one more ride. The queue for the dodgem cars is rather long.



But worth it in the end!

I remember seeing the mouth entrance when I was in Sydney. It's striking - and a little terrifying! The park looks like a blast, though.

It's probably a bit quaint by modern theme park standards, but it certainly has character. They only had about six rides operating at the time (not counting the little kiddies rides), but at least it was free to enter.

It is quite a nice place to walk around in, even if you don't go on any of the rides. It probably has a lot of nostalgia value for Sydneysiders who went there when they were kids - although these days, I suspect the kids would appreciate all the modern parks a bit more.

The teeth only bite down very rarely - and if you're not prepared to risk death ... well, maybe you're better off not trying the Hair Raiser or the Wild Mouse after all...
