Boats on the dam

Liem's last day with his cousins, and the boys are experimenting with boat-building...

Their first attempts all involve masts and keels - and all promptly tip onto their sides almost immediately. There's a reason keels are weighted.



They quickly settle on more raft-like catamaran designs...



One by one, the boats make their journey across the dam.



The water is smooth, but can they make it past the treacherous reeds?



Not all make it - one of the downsides of using duct tape as an easy fix...



And if they ever got bored playing with tiny rafts? There's a full-size one over there...

How cool about the life-sized (and apparently working) raft! I've always daydreamed about building one (and a pallet is a very good idea for the body of it….)

Yes, it's fully functional. It does look like they used a pair of catamaran beams (which, admittedly, not everyone will have lying around) as the floats, but I guess it's all about using what you have to hand.
