Fishing on the Hacking River
Nov. 24th, 2013 06:17 amEarly Saturday morning, and we're down at Swallow Rock Reserve, on the Hacking River.

When we got there, the fog was just lifting, but the sky and the river were both still and silvery. The fish got a good feed off us, but none them got hooked. Just about every time I cast, I ended losing my bait. I don't know whether that means the fish were all too small to fit the hook in their mouths or if they were just very good at not getting hooked. We did see some largish fish jumping out of the water (including once even right over my line).

Here's what it looked like after the sky had cleared a bit. As you can see, lots of paddlers came out early in the morning. It would be a lot of fun to explore the river on a morning like this. (The one we normally paddle on is the Woronora, which is just a few kilometres away, but which ultimately flows into the Georges River then Botany Bay, whereas this one flows to Port Hacking.)
