Twilight sailing on Botany Bay
Oct. 25th, 2013 06:20 amThursday day night and I had a little patch of water in front of the Captain Cook Bridge all to myself...

In other news, I had my first accidental capsize... getting into the boat! It's a bit tricky climbing into a dinghy when there's a bit of wind around and I managed to tip it within seconds of jumping in. At least I could just stand up afterwards, the water was barely knee-deep. Only catch was getting the boat deep enough into the water that I could right it.

Date: 2013-10-27 07:50 pm (UTC)It's not if you tip it while getting in, like I did. Because then you need to wander forlornly through the waves, dragging the boat on its side, looking for enough water to get it upright again. (Once it's actually floating, you can use the centerboard as a lever and it will flip up by itself. If it's lying on the sand, it's just about impossible to lift the mast by yourself.)

Actually, I did, at the very end. A little while after those photos were taken, the sun was a bit lower and all the waves turned orange. Unfortunately, by that point, I'd already come to believe that my camera battery was flat (actually it wasn't, I must have just misread the screen) and I'd put it away.
