Ocean Seafood Village
Oct. 16th, 2013 07:42 pmDinner time, and we're browsing the menu at Ocean Seafood Village in Kota Kinabalu...

Everything on the menu here is guaranteed to be fresh.

The rules are simple, you point at what you want, choose the way you want it cooked, and it turns up at your table.

Not the best place for those who don't like their dinner looking back at them.

Even the vegetables look nervous.

10 Ringgit (about 3 USD) for each of these huge oysters.

These mantis prawns are kept inside coke bottles to stop them from fighting. No, they're not grown inside! Each bottle has been slit open, then taped closed again.

One of these is going to be our dinner... These are called Sun Hok. I'm not sure what they're called in English. They might be "sea bass", but there was also a sign saying "Gobi Fish".

We also choose some stir-fried clams, a vegetable dish, and some fried rice for Liem.

The fish arrives!

The taste of truly fresh fish is amazing. If you haven't tried fish just minutes old, cooked by a skilled chef, then you don't actually know what fish tastes like.

And, of course, the head is the best part. (You have to be quick to get a photograph when dining with a Chinese family...)
