It's my last day in Ireland. I've checked out of the hotel already, but I still have a few hours before my flight. I've thought about taking a Dublin bus tour, but I've got an urge to see the sea again. I've got just enough time to catch the train to Howth...

Howth (rhymes with "both") is a suburb of Dublin on the Howth Peninsula, on the north side of Dublin Bay.

As you might expect, lots of people come here for the seafood...

If I had more time, I'd walk around the peninsular, and maybe visit Howth Castle, but as it is I've eaten too much time just getting here, so I'll have to be content with a walk by the harbour.

Lots of fishing boats wait by the pier.

While a row of seafood shops and restaurants cater to hungry visitors.

At the mouth of the little harbour stands a high sea wall, with lots of spectators. What are they looking at?

Aha! A line of sailing boats is heading out.

In fact, a whole flotilla...

I don't know where they are going, but it will be time for me to leave soon too. There's just time to grab a little lunch...

Wright's of Howth have "everything that swims", which is possibly a little harsh on the mermaids.

That's it though, time to go! I hurry for the train and I'm soon back in central Dublin, en route to collect my suitcase and make it to the airport. (Ironically, Howth is actually quite close to the airport, so I've had to double back.)

Where one final reminder of my trip to the seaside awaits...

And that's it. Just a mere thirty-two hours of travel later (including a diversion to Melbourne) and I'm back at my home hearth (or is that my home beach?).
