It's summertime on the Surf Coast. Come for a walk with me down to the beach...

This is Cozy Corner, a sheltered beach that's great for families.

Back home, Liem has his swimming lessons at the olympic-sized council pool down the road. No such facilities here. Instead, they have lessons right at the beach.

It's a hot day, so lots of families have come out from the city.

Around the point, the surf beach is also crowded.

But there are still quiet places where you can walk.

The same coast at a quieter moment. But humans are not the only ones who surf this shoreline. See those cliffs in the background?

Standup paddleboarding

Guess what happens when you combine them with strong prevailing winds...

Trees at Point Danger

No photos, sadly, but this is one of those special places where you can watch the birds riding the updrafts over the cliffs. They just hover in place, nearly motionless, like they were tethered kites. I'm not sure if they're actually doing it to look for food or just enjoying themselves, but if I was a bird, I know what I'd be doing. I could spend hours watching them.

Here's the surf beach at sunrise, before the crowds have arrived.

You're welcome! It's actually quite funny that, while I live relatively close to some excellent beaches here in Sydney, I spend much more time at the ones shown, a good thousand kilometres away.

Ironically, we've just had a few days of torrential rain and flooding here, due to a tropical cyclone up north.

I love those bent-over trees.

And how high up you must have been for some of those pictures. I like the one of the people walking in the seaweedy low tide, too.

The trees are bent like that because of the "cool change" that comes in regularly from the west, usually in the afternoon. In the summertime, it can come in so hard it shakes the windows. It's quite funny to look at some of the newly planted trees by the beach and to see how they're already starting to lean.
