Barges on the Chao Praya
Oct. 6th, 2012 11:18 amAll day on the Chao Praya, you can watch great trains of barges being towed up and down the river.

Three trains passing each other: two on the BTS Skytrain line and one in the water. The towing boats are our of the picture, to the left.

Four tugboats pulling a train towards the bridge. I have no idea how they co-ordinate steering between the four boats, but I presume they've got some simple system. If it was me, I'm sure they'd be talking about the Great Bangkok Bridge Disaster of 2012 for a very long while...

Four tugs side by side.

Four tugs heading downstream with the barge train behind them.

This is being pulled by just a single tug. I'm not sure if this means it's empty or if one tug is all that's really needed.

Workers on the barges.

And what are they carrying? This one is used for carrying cement, apparently. The Thai script also says "cement" (using the English word). Note how thin the rope is. I wonder if that means the barges are actually empty.

That's it for Bangkok photos for a while. Because tonight I'm flying to... Bulgaria. Bulgarian's not hard, is it?
