Liem's Castle

"What's that?" asks Liem, as I read endlessrarities's post on Carcassone.
"A castle."
"Cool!"


Taking a cue from the castle at Carcassone, Liem has ensured that attackers must cross a narrow bridge even after getting past the gate. "So if they bump each other, they'll fall off," he says.



However, the keen-eyed will note that he has dispensed with machicholations and portcullises, in favour of a GIANT LASER CANNON...



The main gate is guarded by a soldier of the Rebel Alliance. Liem says this is Han Solo. I'm not so sure. Still, no-one gets past Han as long as he has his blaster rifle.



Manning the outer ramparts is Kai the Red Ninja (Guardian of the Sword of Fire).



And waiting within the inner courtyard is Jay the Blue Ninja (Nunchuks of Lightning sold separately). Actually, I note that since then a second laser cannon on a revolving turret has appeared at the back of the keep.



Originally, there were two rebel soldiers guarding the main gate, but after the question was raised about what would happen if enemies tried to climb the rear wall, this one was posted to guard the far side. Liem says this is "The Other One", so I guess it's Luke Skywalker.



The castle's finished, but the battle's still to start...

Don't say that! Hopefully, the lego will last a while yet... (Although he has just discovered the Kre-o sets - luckily they seem to be compatible...)

Halo Megablocs are lego compatible, as in they work with the same bricks though the figures are bigger. The nice thing is that the figures are proper action figures and look quite grown up - one of those instances where a computer game obsession can lead to very creative play.

I do like that laser cannon. Every castle should have one. And every castle should be defended by the Rebel Alliance. Cathars, Jedi Knights... I think there's something of a connection there..

I wonder how many Cathar Perfects came out with their own equivalent saying to 'Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter' as they were about to get burnt for heresy...

I love the permanently etched grimace on the face of Han Solo and the scowling eyebrows on the face of the Red Ninja! And endlessrarities' Carcassonne looked well nigh impregnable just from sheer wall thickness, but on the other hand, you can't go wrong with a laser canon. If Liem gets to go back in time, maybe he can speak with the investor-owners and get them to spring for one.

Yes, I love the facial expressions on the little lego figures. They're on a winner there.
