Sleep

The sleep situation has been a lot better since the new year. The neighbours have been quieter and Liem has been sleeping regularly through the night. I'm now able to go to bed a bit later, which gives me an extra hour or two a day to do things. So far, those hours have been spent reading, but I think I'll have the energy to get back to writing too.

I've also been learning the bamboo flute in the evenings. It's been good to engage a different part of my brain, and it's a great way to relax. You try to play a note, you listen to the sound, you make adjustments. Your mind gets locked in a tight little feedback loop, something like meditation. My embouchure and tone are still both lousy, but I've been improving gradually. It's also nice to get a feeling of progress and improvement again.

Liem has also been making progress, dramatically. He's very close to crawling now and his favourite game is walking around the room with someone holding his hands. It's amazing to watch him grow and gain new skills. He's learning too, and he's loving it.

Ohhh, bamboo flute -- lovely instrument. And yes, I know what you mean about it being like meditation. I find the same thing with singing (which also has the breath focus in common with the flute and with meditation...)

Learning is great fun. My current "new thing" is Irish Sign Language, and I'm enjoying it immensely.

Watching a baby grow and learn is also great. I hadn't thought it would be, but I'm enjoying it even at some remove, whenever I see L's baby and I see and hear about her progress (she's 6 1/2 months old now, that's about Liem's age, isn't it?)

I'm glad to hear good news. I hope things keep improving!

Thanks! Sign language sounds like a wonderful thing to learn. It's interesting that they're encouraging parents to use sign language with babies now, especially slow talkers. (I don't know if it's auslan or a special sign language they've made up for babies.) Although Liem will probably be a talker, judging by the noise he makes.

Hope things are improving for you too. Any more thoughts on the WIR?
