A gift from some good friends. What size chopsticks do you use?

Here's how you tell...

And from Ah Gong, another present from Japan: an ice tray which makes giant "rocks"...

The design is ingenious...

Even if the warnings are a little enigmatic...

The end result...

There are a few typical differences. Japanese chopsticks are more likely to be shorter and pointed. Korean chopsticks are generally made of metal. I've also see an article in Japan about an artisan chopstick maker who makes handcrafted chopsticks to be carried around with you, but I've never seen anyone use them.

ETA: I've just re-read Charlie's comment where it says it's 1.5 times. That sounds more like it and would mean I need a size 9. I've also just measured our everyday chopsticks and they're 24 cm long, so theoretically too big for me, but probably just right for my husband. :)

Date: 2012-01-30 07:50 pm (UTC)I've never seen individually sized chopsticks anywhere else, so I'm guessing this is something of a novelty even in Japan. You do sometimes see extra small ones for children, but they're far more likely to just use adult ones. If they're too hard to handle, you just grip them slightly lower down...
