Tradition resumed...
Dec. 25th, 2011 09:27 amIt's Christmas morning, and we're at my parents' place, down on the Surf Coast. We drove down on Christmas, taking just over twelve hours, stopping at Goulburn, Jugiong, Wangaratta and Wallan.
There was a storm last night and it was still drizzling lightly when I got up. It didn't matter. I was out the door and onto an empty beach, claiming first prints on the sand.
I ran about five km over the sand, cruising along in my new low-impact gait. It didn't feel like I was going very fast, but it didn't matter. This was more of a victory lap for me, after a whole year recovering from the herniated disc that stopped me running last year.
This makes it three times now that I've run at the beach at dawn on Christmas morning (it would have been four if not for the injury). And also the continuation of a new tradition of a run every Sunday.
I made it back feeling jubilant and full of energy, just as lightning started to flash again from the clouds. The skies have cleared now though, and it looks like I'll be back on the beach with Liem before too long.
I hope you all have a happy and safe Christmas, wherever you are...

Lightening. Since I was 4, I've always liked lightening and the gentle sounds of rain. I have recordings of rain storms that I use to fall asleep. :o)

Date: 2011-12-25 08:08 pm (UTC)Running in the sand is less impact on the back, but it does work the ankles and the calves a bit more, so I ran on the road this morning instead.
