So, we're at our local Korean-Japanese restaurant for lunch and they have those tables with embedded BBQ units. They're all covered with big shiny lids with Korean writing on it. While we're waiting for their food, I glance at the script to see if I can pick out any words.

Label on cover of tabletop bbq.

Which, funnily enough turn out to be in English. Read phonetically, the letters say:

SE I PEU RO SEU TA

Can you guess what it is?

It's SAFE ROASTER!

Okay, so you have to know a few tricks about how to map English words to Korean pronunciation (F maps to P' for instance), but they don't take long to pick up, especially when you see bilingual signs around the place.

:D

I should see if my daughter can read it, and how quickly she realizes it's phonetic English.

I had to do my receipts on Friday, and it was as much fun as a crossword puzzle, working out things like a PICHEO being a vessel for serving beer.
