khiemtranI've just finished reading _Rudiments of the Flute Recorder and Oboe_ by Jacques-Martin Hotteterre. Hsiu Lin brought it back for me from the library while I was minding Liem. "It's about 30 years old," she said. "That's okay", I said. "I can't imagine much has changed in 30 years."
30 years? Try 300 years. The translation was made in 1968, but the original _Principes de la Flûte Traversiere, etc._ was first published in 1707.
There's something deeply satisfying in tackling something new, aided by a mentor from three centuries ago.
