Time please.

khiemtranAs this year comes to an end, I've been trying to work out how I'm going to balance my life next year. I can't see any immediate prospects for improvement on the writing or sleeping fronts. (Although learning to write while sleeping - there's an idea). One possibility might be commuting by train instead of by car, which so far I've been resisting. It would mean an extra ninety minutes or so of time where I could write or sleep, but I've spent enough time on that particular train and I'm also quite keen on being able to leave work exactly when I want. If all goes well, we'll probably be moving to a more baby-friendly house sometime next year, which may also affect my transport options.
Having a family now, I'm much more conscious of the importance of the day job, and of doing well at it. This may well mean resigning myself to "hobbyist" status in the writing department. Another possibility might be to have another stab at learning to write shorts, or to see if I can turn myself into a burst writer.
From my current vantage point, I'm optimistic about 2006, with or without writing included. It's looking like a year of change, and an overdue one at that.
