May. 6th, 2005 08:34 amThere are at least three points in The Silver Bowl where the story depends on people not telling the protagonist the full story, even though there was plenty of opportunity for them to do so. Looking back over them now, I think I like those bits less and less. In each case, the ultimate revelation is certainly dramatic, but there's a kind of cheapness about it. I think I'm going to have to think about more the reasons the protag wasn't told everything - the _story_ behind why he wasn't told everything. Or why he didn't understand everything that he was told.
