Last week we went to Hurstville for yum cha with some friends (rather a lot of friends as it turned out). Today, I was back in Hurstville again, only this time my mission was to bring back some frozen dim sum from a shop I had spotted the last time we were there.
Sure enough, the shop turned out to have a good selection of the most popular varieties, so I chose some xiao long bao and prawn dumplings and took them home to steam. The lady in the shop said to steam them frozen for "ten to fifteen" minutes, so I gave them fifteen minutes just in case.
Fifteen minutes later .. dim sum! Not top notch, but at least worthy of a suburban restaurant (I'm guessing many of them get their dumplings from the same source). This opens up a whole new world of possibilities... a well stocked freezer and it's dim sum for breakfast whenever we feel like it.
Now to start working through their other varieties...
