khiemtranI left the house this morning at ten past five, and had the unusual experience of walking to the pool under a cloudless, star-filled sky. This being Sydney in a heatwave, it was still quite warm (mid twenties at least), but not unpleasant.
When I got to the pool, there were tv news cameras being set up outside. Not, obviously, for "Engineer goes swimming at 5am", but I figured it might have had something to do with Ian Thorpe's comeback announcement. I wonder if they were staking out all the big Sydney pools, just in case he turned up (my local pool is the one he used to train in, but he's apparently been swimming in different pools around Sydney to avoid the media).
