I've been looking for easy recorder pieces that children can play together (Liem can manage one note now and one of his older friends can manage three), and I've just noticed that the violin part of Pachelbel's Canon is just a note or two wider than the range of a descant recorder. It's probably a bit too hard for the kids (at least for a year or two), but it has interesting possibilities as a party piece if I can find enough musical friends and enough recorders.

Actually, come to think of it, the first few variations might be okay even for the kids, if I can find a suitable arrangement. F#, E, D, C#, B, A, B, C#...

I'd suggest for younger kids that familiar songs, like nursery rhymes or playground songs, might be best to start with, so they already know the rhythm. There are a few that canon, like London's Burning and Row, row, row your boat. Of course, playground songs for kids now are probably something on the lines of Like a Virgin and Thriller. ;)

Yes, I thinking more of using it as piece that adults could play together, but I guess it will come down to whether I can find an easy enough arrangement.
