Journey made.
Dec. 8th, 2009 02:23 pmIn the end, it was an almost perfect run. We next just after six am and arrived just after 6pm. The trip was almost exactly five two hour segments with four half hour rest breaks.
The trip up the Hume was a far cry from the last time I did it. Almost every town was bypassed and it was dual carriageway and 110 km/h almost all the way. Liem was spectacularly unimpressed by the Giant Merino ("It's a statue," he explained patiently, and not unkindly, "Statues are always big."). OTOH, I was quite impressed by the line of giant windmills we saw not far afterwards. I never quite visualized just how big they would really look.
Best of all, the dvd player worked like a charm and Liem watched Porco Rosso something like five or six times in a row. I did have one minor equipment failure when the car stereo and my ipod stopped working together, but at least I had a CD at hand to cover the gaps between radio stations. All up, it was an amazing difference from the last time I drove - airconditioning to keep the car cool on a hot day, music for me and dvds for Liem, McCafes serving real espresso at regular intervals up and down the highway...
Now, we just have to wait for the weather to clear up down here, and we can hit the beach...
