LA

So, I was in a Toys-R-Us in Culver City, buying a lightsaber and an X-wing transformer for Liem, and chatting with the lady at the checkout, and she asked what I thought of LA.

"Oh, I LOVE it here!" I replied, as is apparently the done thing, and she gave me a huge beaming smile. It wasn't long after that, maybe on the flight home, that I started to realize that it wasn't actually a lie. It's taken a little while, but there are things I'm starting to love about LA.

There's the food, of course, and the fact that the climate is so close to what we get in Australia. But there's also the energy of the place and the way enthusiasm is always returned. Now, admittedly, I've only ever seen a tiny fraction of the city and it's hardly a representative sample (my, but you can live well in LA as long as you have money), but it is starting to grow on me. It's nice to find a place where people put so much energy into what they do.

Now, if they would just do something about that airport...

Oh god, that airport's awful. Especially the transfer between the international terminal and the domestic terminal to get the shuttle up to San Francisco after a long flight from Melbourne...

Yes, LAX is dreadful. Definitely one of the worst in the world. I was so glad I was getting off at LA this time, instead of transferring somewhere else.
