In Wollongong today, I was surprised to overhear two old ladies speaking Japanese to each other. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that could understand what they were talking about. I probably only caught about a third of the words, but it was enough to follow their conversation.

I've got the feeling I'm about to level up again. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm slowly building my vocab up to a critical mass. Diving back into kanji again has made a difference, but I'd still like to find some local conversation partners. Maybe I'll ask those old ladies if I see them again.

Good luck with finding a conversation partner. One of the things we're supposed to be doing in the Wednesday Welsh class is finding a native speaker to mentor us. It's not as easy as you might think.

I think it's all just part of the fun. It gets me out of my comfort zone and makes me meet new people.
