Buttermilk

Is buttermilk supposed to taste like (not unpleasant) natural yoghurt, or have I just consumed it a little too late?

No, that's exactly what it is. Also used in 'healthy' icecreams.

Not recommended as a breakfast food.

(This happened to me in Iceland. As I don't speak Icelandic, one flavour of milk looked very much like another. It just didn't *taste* like like should...)

As it turned out it was breakfast for me. We bought a small carton on the weekend for baking purposes and only used half of it. As it had to be consumed by today, I decided I might as well try it, but then I started wondering if I hadn't left it too late.

It has put me in the mood for pancakes though, so I've just finished mixing up some batter for breakfast tomorrow. They'll be non-buttermilk pancakes of course, since someone has already gallantly consumed the last of the buttermilk that we had in the house.
