Another story idea

khiemtranThere might be something to this short story writing business. Apart from actually being able to get to an ending within a year, you can also jump on a new idea just because it interests you.
Right now, I've got a new idea in my head but it isn't complete yet. I've got a beginning and an ending, but I'm just not sure what goes in the middle yet. I could be an hour away from solving it, or it could be a year.
My current idea is to base it off Du Fu's poem "Gu Yan" (The Solitary Goose), which I find both deeply evocative and depressing if I read it too much. The image of the single lone goose lost amidst the myriad layers of cloud is something I find quite haunting.
Like just about everything I write, it will be bittersweet with something of a happy ending. The challenge will be to keep it light enough to keep people reading.
