There's definitely something to this short writing business. It's nice to reach an ending in under a week (and at just over 4K, smaller than I expected but I guess I'll still have to work on that). On the other hand, damn, my first drafts look awful these days. Now to start shining it up to the point that it doesn't give me the shudders.

Congrats! If I could write short, I would, but my short stories read like outlines. ;)

Congratulations on the complete draft! I'm sure it will polish up nicely.

You know, I have so many short stories in various stages of completion that I could probably finish 1 per week for about 6 weeks if I put my mind to it. I might even try that because writing endings is not my strongest point and the more practice I can get, the better.

Yes, it's been something of an eye opener for me. I haven't seriously tried to write shorts since high school, but I've been learning a lot about tightening things up and cutting out what isn't necessarily. I thought this story would be about 6k when I was writing it, but, now that I read it over, I think there are still some entire scenes I can delete to give more room for the highlights.
