Kiyomizu Temple, Kyoto
Oct. 24th, 2008 03:40 pmThe best advice I can give about going to Kyoto is to see just one thing and take your time doing it. Here are some photos from the famous Kiyomizu Temple. I had planned to see Nijou Castle, with its Nightingale floor, too, but by the time we had done Kiyomizu, some lunch and some shopping it was a pretty full day.

Handwashing.

The famous stage of the main temple. The story goes that if you jump from here and survive, your wish will be fulfilled. The practice is now banned, but fortunately Kiyomizu-dera does have a number of less violent procedures for your wish fulfillment needs.

O-Jizou at Kiyomizu Temple. I think the red cloth tied to each one represents a wish to be fulfilled, but I didn't ask.

Votive tablets to be burnt.
