I had dinner last night at one of the restaurants with a giant robotic crab sign in Dotonbori last night. It was a nice place, but unfortunately it was also heart stoppingly expensive. After satring forlornly at the menu for a while, my friends and I finally spotted one dish that looked reasonably priced. It was a set menu and it featured crab, sushi, rice and a drink. Perfect! Our cunning plan came to a crashing downfall shortly after we tried to order the "kanibon" ... it turned out it was only for "kodomo" (i.e. it was the kids meal).

There are times, at certain restaurants, where I really would prefer the kid's meal. Not with regard to expense but size of portion. I think I remember reading that back in Victorian times they did different meal sizes for men and women, but women campaigned to have the same as the men, so the practice ceased. Of course if they were being charged the same for less food, I totally agree with them, but I hate wasting food and yet can't always eat a full-size restaurant meal.
