Life experience
Sep. 21st, 2008 03:16 pmI defeated an antitheft device on a piece of babywear today. We bought it legitimately, but the checkout girl forgot to remove the special tag thingy after we had paid. We didn't notice until we got home, and there was no way I was driving back there again to get them to take it off. After careful examination of the device and the available tools at hand, I defeated it by means of banging it with a hammer, such that it became little pieces, spread lo! across the land.
Pleasingly, it turned out not to have some sort of dyespraying device inside. Disappointingly, it looks like really it was just a fancy tag, without even any sign of an rfid or other embedded technology. At least I gained a bit of knowledge, and a small amount of exercise into the bargain.
